Oomi launches on Indiegogo
A new smart home platform with links to Australia has been launched on Indiegogo.
Oomi was created by Fantem, a company that includes Melbourne-based Environexus’ Chris Hall and Shivaun Ryan. The system is designed to intuitively ‘learn’ the way people use their homes and adapt accordingly.
Yes, it has a lot of features (as is requisite these days for IP-enabled systems on crowdsourcing websites), but where Oomi seemingly differs is in its approach to ‘autonomous control’.

Members of the CI industry are well aware that people are often intimidated by technology… and buttons. If Oomi can remove that from the equation then it creates an interesting proposition: to wit, a truly smart home.
According to the campaign: “Out of the box, Oomi offers a lot. But it can also be expanded to work with your whole home.
“It all starts with Oomi Cube. Every home automation system has a central gateway so that you can control and monitor your home when you’re away from it. But most of these gateways need to have sensors and devices installed before you can even start to experience a smarter home.
“Out of the box, Oomi Cube is different. That’s because, right out of the box, Oomi gives you a security system and is able to control your home theatre, heating and cooling.”
Along with Oomi Cube, the Oomi system also comes with Oomi Touch and Oomi Plug.
“Oomi Touch is a tablet that controls every aspect of your Oomi home and your connected technologies, like your home theatre. It’s also what you Tap-and-Touch to add new Oomi accessories.
“Oomi Plug is a discrete Z-Wave enabled plug for wireless control of any appliance, lamp, or electronic device you plug into it. It also measures power consumption and includes a USB power port so you can charge mobile devices.”
The company was seeking $50,000 but raised close to $250,000 in the first 24 hours. The campaign has currently attracted just under $400,000 in contributions.
